Our Restoration Process

At Masterpiece Restoration, we have three levels of restoration with three corresponding types of finished product.

BRONZE LEVEL

Bronze-level restoration aims to reproduce the current museum original of the artwork, with only minor modifications.

Please note that this means that your Bronze-level restored product will have all of the signs of wear and tear that the current museum copy does.

For instance; water stains, dirt stains, scratches, flaked paint, rips and tears to the canvas, age-associated colour fading, and so on.

*Please examine the preview before purchase to ensure you are happy with the bronze-level restored copy*

The aim of Bronze-level restoration is accurate reproduction of the current state of the classic artwork.

Expect crystal clarity and high resolution, but do not expect any major changes to the artwork.

SILVER LEVEL

Silver-level restoration aims to remove the major signs of aging from the classic artwork.

This means repainting damaged or missing sections, and colour-correcting for the effects of age.

Please note that the degree of correction applied to the painting is an artistic choice made by our art restorers. Some details of aging or damage may be considered to add character to the reproduction.

Silver-level restored products may have many of the signs of wear and tear that the current museum copy does. For instance; water stains, dirt stains, scratches, flaked paint, rips and tears to the canvas, age-associated colour fading, and so on.

*Please examine the preview before purchase to ensure you are happy with the silver-level restored copy*

The aim of Silver-level restoration is removing most of the effects of time on the classic artwork.

Expect your product to be altered from the current museum original.

***

GOLD LEVEL

Gold-level restoration aims to return a lost or highly degraded artwork to an artistic representation of its original state. To these ends, multiple replicas or copies may be spliced together, and some elements may be completely redrawn.

Gold-level restoration may involve the incorporation of non-original elements, but the final product will be blemish-free, high resolution, and vibrant.

*Please examine the preview before purchase to ensure you are happy with the gold-level restored copy*

The aim of Gold-level restoration is recreating a classic artwork that has been lost or substantially damaged.

Expect your product to be significantly modified from the current museum original.

If you have any questions on our restoration procedures or products, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please examine closely the preview of your product before purchase. Bear in mind that as well as these three levels of restoration, differing sizes of the same work of art may be cropped differently due to the varying aspect ratios involved.

Please also note that these three levels -- bronze, silver and gold -- do not refer to the quality of product. All of our prints are high resolution, and of the same printing quality. The three levels refer to the amount of time our art restorers have spent on digitally remastering the work of art.
