"The Last Supper" by two of Leonardo's students and contemporaries, Giampietrino & Boltraffio.
Giampietrino & Boltraffio created a life-sized oil on canvas copy of Leonardo da Vinci's famous wall mural in order to preserve its beauty, and its message, for future generations.
Due to the experimental methods Leonardo used to make the original mural at the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie -- tempera on gesso, pitch and mastic -- the artwork began to deteriorate almost immediately after completion.
Thankfully all was not lost. Today, we can witness da Vinci's vision in unparalleled detail with our Museum-quality Poster of the portion of Giampietrino & Boltraffio's painting focusing on Saint Matthew, Saint Thaddeus, and Saint Simon:
